“A SENSORY BRIDGE TO GLOBAL CULTURE”
PUBLISHER’S CORNER
Such was the start of our intriguing project, with me as wordsmith and world class dance photographer Stephen Marino snapping away his special magic in tango millisecond increments. We named our brainchild “PROYECTO TANGO” © for its multisensory components ― sensual images combined in various ways with delicioiusly written “stories” from around the world ― focused around all aspects of this captivating dance. Aficionados and lovers of tango will revel in its artistic representation, visually and conceptually intertwined on several levels.
PROYECTO TANGO© features distinctive fine art photo essays and traveling gallery events ― plus an exciting new book on the horizon ― showcasing the sensual, enchanting world of Argentine Tango.

COVER STORY
“HOLD ONTO YOUR SOCKS, PAT!” Stephen excitedly predicted when we first conceived of this project. I quickly corrected him, “No, HOLD ON TO YOUR FISHNETS!”― and the tag line was born for PROYECTO TANGO, a new visual adventure that presents the concept of Argentine Tango in an innovative way. Photo art, centered on the theme of Argentine Tango, will never be the same...
Fine art pieces range in size from 5”x7” prints to large scale pieces (up to 4’x8’), some of which are signed and numbered limited editions. They’re presented two ways ― matted/unmatted or creatively framed for installations customized to personal preferences and requests.
The project takes place worldwide through special traveling art exhibits including “live gallery” shoots and limited edition signed art prints for sale, plus a stunning coffee table art book.
The coffee table book is PROYECTO TANGO’S© flagship ― a full sensory experience destined to become a collector’s item for tango aficionados. Each spread will showcase rich visually intricate page design with captivating poetic descriptions of the featured photo. And as Argentine Tango music’s an intrinsic part of its sensory interpretation, the book will also include an exclusive CD specially recorded by a unique Argentine orchestra.
Artist of Photography
Be prepared to “hold onto your fishnets!” – you won’t see tango interpreted like this anywhere.
Our collection of stunning photos is shot worldwide by consummate, renowned dance photographer Stephen Marino. Stephen specializes in photographing dance as art, with particular interest in play on light and shadow and breathtaking composition.
Gathering inspiration from throughout the globe in places like Cape Town, South Africa, Barcelona, Spain, the U.S., and of course, Buenos Aires. Stephen captures the most incredible details of tango lifestyle and its dancers with a distinctly creative eye. Simply stated, he is a pure artist of photography.

Intimate moments of tango are captured in every aspect of tango lifestyle – cafecito in a Buenos Aires café; a private dialogue for two held in close embrace, entranced on the dance floor; flickering glow around a cigarette lit during the break of a stage performance; delicate decoration of intricate footwork; dramatic lunges; bellowing of an onstage tango orchestra…countless vignettes of sensual intrigue!
Wordsmithing
And drawing on my experience as a writer and tanguera (tango dancer), I craft intoxicating and succulent descriptions that enhance each image as the project's wordsmith. Combined, these photo art essays portray a uniquely layered sensory interpretation of Argentine Tango, with words that tell the story beyond what the eye perceives.
An exclusive feature of Proyecto Tango© is its “live galleries” – gallery showings that take place throughout the country (and worldwide) with the added element of shooting live at an event, and have personalized descriptions written on the spot for photos printed almost instantaneously.
These traveling galleries take place for a few hours to a day or more at various locations such as art galleries, restaurants, dance studios and events, bookstores, and so on. They may be accompanied by a wine tasting, dance function, or exist on their own. This idea allows the gallery event itself to become part of the featured art! Also shown in every exhibition, of course, are pieces from the full collection available for sale.
A major Proyecto Tango© gallery is currently showing throughout October and November at Paramount Arts Center in Aurora, IL, in conjunction with with Paramount’s entertaining headline performances.
Check the Proyecto Tango© website and Facebook group page for upcoming events.
The scope of Proyecto Tango© takes tango art to a dimension never before explored. Discover why we say…“Hold onto your fishnets!”
